County Councillor allowances information published

Every year Leicestershire County Council are obliged to publish details of the allowances paid to all County Councillors.

Details for the financial year 2013/14 have just been published.

In the interests of full transparency I feel that it is only right that I publish details of the amounts paid to me on this website.

Since being elected on 6th May 2013 until 31 March 2014 I was paid £12,544.55. This amount was made up of £9,169.55 basic allowance which is paid to all councillors and  £3,375.00 special responsibility allowance paid to me as Chairman of the Children and Families Overview & Scrutiny Committee.

Records show that I also received £324.05 in respect of public transport. This amount was not paid to me directly but relates to rail tickets to London on two separate occasions. When travelling by rail the protocol is that officers book tickets on a councillors behalf. Typically open return tickets are booked which I believe prove to be very expensive. Should I need to take rail travel in the future I will ask that wherever possible specific off-peak trains are booked to reduce costs.

I have not claimed for any other public transport, mileage, subsistence or other costs.

All allowances are subject to income tax.

Full details of expenses and allowances paid to all county councillors can be viewed here.
