Labour Councillors speak out in defence of our libraries and museums

Robert Sharp, Spokesperson for libraries and museums

The Labour Group at Leicestershire County Council are fully supporting North West Leicestershire’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Jamie McMahon’s call to be ‘ambitious for Coalville’.

Labour’s Spokesperson for Museums and Libraries, Robert Sharp, has called for an 18 month moratorium on the closure of all libraries and museums, including the Snibston site, at risk of closure.

He is calling on the ruling Conservative group to set up a council led, cross party team to look at securing a viable future for all sites.

Cllr Sharp said: “No stone should be left unturned in securing the future of these vital community assets.

“Inaction by the council will result in the loss and closure of these community treasures."

Labour Leader, Max Hunt is calling on Council Leader, Nick Rushton to: “work with us to deliver the viable future for libraries and museums demanded by the public.”
