Leon Spence, Labour County Councillor for Whitwick, has expressed his delight at news that North West Leicestershire District Council have announced plans to scrap the introduction of its 'Green Bin Tax' even before it has been implemented.
In a press release issued earlier today the Conservative controlled District Council confirmed that it would drop plans to introduce the charge which promised to be vastly unpopular.
Councillor Spence said 'My Labour colleagues and I have been campaigning against the introduction of the green bin tax for many months.
'It was clear how unpopular and financially misguided the scheme would be when a poll on my website showed 92% of local people would simply send their bin back.
Councillor Spence continued 'I am delighted the administration at North West Leicestershire have seen sense and dropped the charge from their budget proposals.'
