A stone retaining wall has today partially collapsed in Castle Street, Whitwick scattering debris across the road
Workmen have now cleared the road of rubble and are working towards making the wall, to the rear of the old Whitwick Sports and Social Club site, secure however this is likely to take two to three days.
Temporary 'Road Closed' signs have been erected but unfortunately many motorists are ignoring them.
County Councillor, Leon Spence, warned 'the road is clear but at this time the wall is not safe. Motorists should be aware that the wall could collapse at any moment and to ignore the road closed signs is taking an unnecessary risk.
Councillor Spence continued 'The workmen are working flat out to secure what's left of the retaining wall but are awaiting equipment which will allow them to fully secure the site.'
