Have some fun at half term (and try out the new cycle network with an Olympic Gold Medallist)!

  1. Driving most days to work along the new cycle ways and i can honestly say they are totally unused by cyclists
Not sure of the cost of the new cycle ways but i can imagine it was a considerable amount.
Maybe tax payers money could of been better spent by our local council !

    1. Thanks for your comment.

It's true that at the moment not a great many people are using the network but I would see it more as an investment for the future. I think that we will only know how successful they are in 10 years time when, I believe, they will have become an important part of our infrastructure.

It's important to note that the funding for the cycle network came from a pot of central government money which could only be used for improving cycling facilities.

Leicestershire County Council applied for approximately £2 million for improving our network in Coalville (and parts of Loughborough). If the County Council didn't bid for the money we would not have had it to spend on another project but rather it would have gone to another part of the country.

I'm not part of the ruling Conservative Group at LCC, quite the contrary, but I believe they were absolutely right to bid for the funding to improve Coalville and the surrounding area.
